Parker's Nursery.

Today is finally the day! I actually got around to posting pictures of Parker's sweet little nursery.

There are so many projects and stories that went into the making of this room.

My dad and Bryan put in the board and batton. It was definitely a labor of love. The rocker was the best Craigslist find I have ever seen ($60), but needed a new upholstery job BAD. I found an upholsterer and a neutral toile fabric (so that it can be used for future, "girl" nurseries if needed) and wa-lah!

"Cooking and cleaning can wait till tomorrow, for babies grow up we've learned to our sorrow, so settle down dust, cob webs go to sleep, I'm rocking my baby and babies don't keep."

My mother-in-law told me this saying, and I thought it was important to put somewhere that I could see it everyday. I find myself repeating it in my head while I'm looking around our wreck of a house. And while I'm rocking sweet Parker to sleep :).

I put the lyrics to "You Are My Sunshine" in the frames above the crib, but I will eventually put his newborn pictures in them instead!

The little onesies on the wall are Bryan's. I LOVE these.

As you know, we painted our Craigslist crib a few months ago, and my mom, mother-in-law and me made all of the bedding. My mom did the awesome crib skirt (using this tutorial), my mother-in-law made the bumpers (which I don't have in there at the moment), and I made the fitted sheets (using this tutorial) and pillows. The pillows are taken out for sleep-time though!!! We are very paranoid parents, promise :). All fabric was special ordered at JoAnn's.

The light is from Ikea, the rug from Home Depot, curtains from Target, and the ottoman from TJ Maxx. The hanging baskets on the opposite wall are from World Market. The paint color is Valspar Cliveden Gray Morning.

The dresser is from a local antique store. I love love love it, but the drawers are kind of a pain to close. Bummer. The baskets have all of his diapers and changing supplies. We didn't do a changing pad per my mom's advice, and have been having a perfectly fine time changing him all over the house. (I have many "diaper changing stations" set up around the house.)

So that's that! I hope you all liked it. :) I'll try and put a few more details later, but right now I have a precious little baby who is starting to wake up and wants to eat!

  28. You sure have a beautiful baby boy and the nursery is very pretty!! I enjoy your site.
I noticed the top book in your stack the other day. The lady that wrote it, Amy Parker, is the daughter of a lady in our Sunday School Class at church.
I have bought some from her for my grand daughter and we have had them personally signed by Amy.

  31. Try rubbing soap on the sides of the drawers where it might be sticking. Not sure where I heard or read that... Just use a hard bar soap like ivory... not the soft kind.

    ReplyDelete
  32. The nursery is beautiful. You can run a bar of soap along the bottom of the dresser drawers to help them slide in/out more easily!

  33. What a gorgeous nursery! So much love was put into it! Thanks for sharing, new to your blog, it is gorgeous,

What a beautiful nursery and congratulations on your baby Parker =) I came to read your blog from a link on 'Just a Girl'. Thank you for sharing. I thought you might also like to read the poem in full and have copied it here...It was my mantra when my children were small (I have four)and it comes to mind again now that I am a Nana. It is so true about the passage of time...enjoy your baby while you may xxx

    Song for a Fifth Child

    by Ruth Hulburt Hamilton

Mother, oh Mother, come shake out your cloth,
Empty the dustpan, poison the moth,
Hang out the washing and butter the bread,
Sew on a button and make up a bed.
Where is the mother whose house is so shocking?
She’s up in the nursery, blissfully rocking.
Oh, I’ve grown shiftless as Little Boy Blue
    (Lullaby, rockaby, lullaby loo).
Dishes are waiting and bills are past due
    (Pat-a-cake, darling, and peek, peekaboo).
The shopping’s not done and there’s nothing for stew
And out in the yard there’s a hullabaloo
But I’m playing Kanga and this is my Roo.
Look! Aren’t her eyes the most wonderful hue?
    (Lullaby, rockaby, lullaby loo).

The cleaning and scrubbing will wait till tomorrow,
For children grow up, as I’ve learned to my sorrow.
So quiet down, cobwebs. Dust go to sleep.
I’m rocking my baby and babies don’t keep.

  39. Just searching the web for beautiful nursery designs. I love, love this room. Just stunning. As for the antique dresser, take some old wax candles and rub them on the bottom of the drawers where they slide. It works every time. Soap sometimes works but it wears off quicker and it flakes. Pick a scent you like because it helps the clothing staying nice smelling :) I do this with my husbands old furniture.

  44. Hi I was wondering about how much it cost you to reupholster the chair. There is one similar on my craigslist for $90, but was wondering if the ending price would be economical for me.

  50. When he was little, they were for socks, shoes, and hats. Now they have a bunch of toys in them :). He takes them down all the time to play!

    ReplyDelete
  51. We paid $250 to get our chair reupholstered. With fabric and the chair, it ended up being about as much as a normally priced nice rocker would be, but I got it exactly how I wanted it, which is priceless in my opinion!
